Dog agility is an enjoyable ways to bond with your dog while supporting their mental and physical wellbeing. But is it the right fit for your dog?

In this post, we’ll explore who agility is (and isn’t) suitable for, what to expect from a foundations class, and how to get started with agility training in Limerick.

What Is Dog Agility?

Dog agility is a fun sport where dogs learn to navigate obstacles like jumps, tunnels, and weave poles. But it’s not all about speed or competition — for many pet dogs, agility is simply a joyful way to move their bodies, build confidence, and strengthen communication with their person.

Our dog agility foundations classes in Limerick are designed with safety, adaptability, and relationship-building at the heart. Whether you’re new to dog training or looking for something fresh and enriching to do together, agility might be a great next step.

Is Agility Suitable for My Dog?

While many dogs can enjoy agility in some form, it's not suitable for every dog.

Agility may not be appropriate for:

  • Dogs with spinal concerns (e.g. long-backed breeds like Dachshunds)

  • Giant or heavy-set breeds prone to joint stress

  • Dogs with existing mobility, orthopedic, or neurological issues

That said, there are plenty of ways we can adapt agility for the individual. In our foundations classes:

  • Exercises are low-impact and joint-safe

  • We adjust height, speed, and intensity based on your dog’s needs

  • There’s no pressure to complete obstacles — the focus is on fun, not performance

We also welcome:

  • Puppies of any age (with age-appropriate activities)

  • Shy or sensitive dogs, with plenty of space and choice

  • Pet dogs, regardless of breed or previous experience
